The ancient Greek Gods and Goddess contain a wealth of stories and legends, wrapped in Myths which typically provide a story with a morale code designed to influence the reader into behaviour as fitting Greek culture of the era.
In this article, we look at Chloris and the myths and legends surrounding Chloris, Chloris relationship to and with other Greek Gods and Goddess and key events and stories which relate to ancient astrology and the changing seasons.
She was a nymph associated with Spring, new growth and flowers, and was abducted, seduced and later married Zephyrus (the west wind.) Zephyrus renamed her Flora and made her a goddess. In the later role she was rumoured to have been responsible for the changing of, Adonis, Attis, Crocus, Hyacinthus and Narcissus into flowers. Her first name Chloris, meant, greenish- yellow, or pale green, and gives us the modern word, 'Chlorophyll' the green pigment of plants that traps the of sunlight for photosynthesis: it is also used as a colouring agent in food and medicines (E14).
